BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles have placed right-handed Alfredo Simon on the restricted list, hopeful that the pitcher can return before making his next scheduled start.
Simon left for the Dominican Republic on Sunday night to attend a hearing related to a shooting that occurred on New Year’s Day. Simon is a potential suspect in a shooting that left a man dead. He did not join the Orioles until April because of legal issues surrounding the case.
Simon started Saturday against Cleveland and earned the win after allowing two runs in seven innings.
The Orioles also recalled infielder Josh Bell from Triple-A Norfolk and purchased the contract of right-handed Todd Worrell. The moves were announced Monday, around 24 hours after Baltimore optioned pitcher Mitch Atkins to Norfolk.
