BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Police are using a sketch and a description to search for the man behind a violent assault. He punched and threatened a woman on the side of a busy highway all because of a fender bender.

Mike Hellgren has the latest on the manhunt.

They say the suspect savagely beat a woman after a fender bender on I-83 around 10 p.m. last Friday night after asking her not to call police to report the accident.

So what should you do in a similar situation?

“You need to look around before you get out of your car. First of all, is it too dark to be getting out of your car? Are you on a busy highway? Maybe call 911 immediately without any hesitation,” said Elena Russo, Maryland State Police.

This case unfolded near the Maryland/Pennsylvania state line at exit 33. After both got out of their cars, the man even offered the woman cash not to call police. When she dialed 911, he grabbed her phone and punched her.

Police say she pleaded for her life as he dragged her toward the tree line, threatening her life the entire time.

She got free and ran across the lanes begging for help and was finally able to get to her car and escape.

“Unfortunately, you hear about these road rages incidents all the time. I always find it amazing how angry people get when driving,” said Jonah Novik, of Baltimore.

“I instructed my 30-year-old daughter not to get out of her vehicle if she were in an accident. To call the police immediately,” said Frank Kaufman Jr., of Baltimore County.

“The only fender bender I’ve been in, they call police and they exchange information for you,” said Jascy Jones, of Eastern Shore.

The man was driving a Jeep Wrangler with Pennsylvania plates.

Both Maryland and Pennsylvania State Police are part of the manhunt to find him.

“There’s no reason not to stay in your car and call 911 without any hesitation,” Russo said. “Of course, your personal safety should be No. 1.”

Police say if you have a gut feeling that something is wrong, always call them and they’ll help you sort it out.

WJZ also asked police whether they thought the story was a hoax. Police say they have no reason not to believe the woman’s account of events.

State police are looking for any tips. If you saw anything that night, call them. You can remain anonymous.

This may sound awfully strange but does anyone else see something similiar about the sketch and the reporter? Just sayin……

    1. Hmmmmmm says:

And with my comment, I am not saying that I think it is the reporter LOL. It’s just a coincidence that the sketch looks sort of like the reporter that is reporting the story.

  3. Doris says:

Some guy did a similar thing to my 17 year old son a few months ago. He rear ended him and then got angry when he called the police. He starting screaming and acting like a nut. Thankfully, my son is respectful, 6’4″, and the guy didn’t attack. The responding 911 operator asked my son if the guy was drunk. He was screaming and acting crazy. The officer never gave the guy a ticket because my son wasn’t hurt, just his car. Now the guy is saying my son backed into him and his insurance company is taking his side. People are CRAZY now days! Prayers for this poor woman. I am sure this was a horribly traumatic incident for her.

    1. headinout says:

Doris- hopefully your son is okay but I have heard other stories like that where someone hits another person and then blames them. It happened to my husband and other friends.. People are nuts. The other day I stopped at a stop sign and as I went to start off, the fool approaching the intersection ran his stop sign. I shook my head as my daughter and I talked about how ‘not’ to drive. He slammed on his brakes, threw it in reverse and chased me for about 2 miles. Finally he gave up but there are idiotic people out there. Very scary world we live in nowadays.

  6. BENZCAR says:

I-83 does NOT have a York Rd. exit, does it ?

    1. J says:

There is an Old York Rd exit, they could mean that. It’s in Baltimore county.

    2. Cathy says:

it depends how far up they were, you have timomium rd and padonia which goes off 83 to york

  10. Jim says:

I-83 does have a York Rd exit, it’s the next exit above Parkton, about 5 miles below the state line or about 12 miles above Hunt Valley.

  11. jeff a says:

Too bad she couldnt shoot him. Oh wait, cant protect yourself in Maryland unless you are rich, connected or have already been attacked. She can get a permit NOW….lot of good it will do her unless she has a time machine

  15. Horrified says:

    Mike, what did you do??

  16. earlgreyleester says:

If you call 911 for a fender tender with no injuries, they are going to tell you its not an emergency and hang up.

  17. Mike Is Guilty says:

    Arrest your reporter

  18. USALAS says:

I found it really odd that the reporter says at the end that he asked the police if it could be a hoax. WHY would he even need to ask this? I’ve never heard another news reporter say anything like that in a story like this. Was he hoping to plant that seed of doubt? For his sake, I hope his identity resemblance is a coincidence, but if not, I hope the police see this as a clear hint of guilt.

  19. monroe says:

unfortunately it did wasnt the reporter it was a guy with some serious problems, extradition how long will that take

  20. what a joke says:

Extradition? That’s a joke…. My husband was involved in a rode rage incident a few years ago. The guy cut him off, clipped the front end of our car, then started to freak out! When it was all over, my husband needed 6 stitches in his head. The police knew who the guy was, even where he lived in PA, right over the state line. They said it was too minor of an offence to go pick him up, and they would just wait for him to get pulled over in MD, and pick him up!! Took 2 years for that to happen!
