Maryland Counties Release Evacuation Plans

Maryland counties have released their evacuation plans.

WORCESTER COUNTY --- MANDATORY EVACUATION
Worcester County Government has ordered a mandatory evacuation no later than Saturday, August 27, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. in the following areas: all properties in the West Ocean City Sanitary Service Area (east of Herring Creek and north of Old Bridge Road); all properties east of MD Route 611 (Stephen Decatur Highway); and all properties in South Point (both sides of South Point Road). This includes the communities of Cape Isle of Wight, West Ocean City, Mystic Harbour, Snug Harbor, Assateague Point, Frontier Town Camp Ground, Castaways and others.
WICOMICO COUNTY - MANDATORY EVACUATION
Residents of the following areas are ordered to begin evacuating at 10:00 A.M. today and to complete the process by 4:00 P.M. tomorrow, August 27th. Tropical-force winds are anticipated to begin at about 4:00 P.M. on Saturday.

DORCHESTER COUNTY --- VOLUNTARY EVACUATION

Dorchester County Department of Emergency Services is strongly urging county residents who live in mobile home parks, low-lying, and or flood prone areas to voluntarily evacuate their homes and seek shelter with friends or family on higher ground. There is the potential of significant flooding in the county in these low-lying or flood prone areas. Although your home may not flood, there is the strong possibility of rainfall amounts in the 6 inch to 13 inch range combining with storm surge that may result in emergency services personnel not being able to reach you during an emergency. If there is not a place of safe shelter for you and or your loved ones, a community shelter will be opened at Maces Lane Middle School beginning at 0900 hours on Saturday 08-27-2011. This is not a pet friendly shelter so please assure that your pets needs are met. If you have any additional questions please contact the Dorchester County Emergency Management at 410-228-1818.

CAROLINE COUNTY - VOLUNTARY EVACUATION
Emergency shelters will be open at Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company and Goldsboro Volunteer Fire Company beginning at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 27 as a precautionary measure. Residents of low-lying, flood prone areas and mobile homes are encouraged to seek alternative housing or stay in the emergency

TALBOT COUNTY - SECTIONAL EVACUATION
8/26/2011 at 2:00pm - At this time we are initiating an evacuation of the areas west of Oak Creek Bridge as well as the Town of Oxford. People are encouraged to stay with friends and family on higher ground. A public and pet shelter will be opened at Easton High School at 8:00pm on Friday 8/26 and will remain open as long as necessary. You should bring a change of clothing, a pillow and blanket, and personal hygenie items. If you are bringing pets, they must be in a carrier, you must have their shot records and food for the duration. As always, for emergency situations call 9-1-1. For all other inquiries call 410-822-0095.

QUEEN ANNE'S COUNTY - MANDATORY EVACUATION
Mandatory Evacuation of Areas West of 50/301 Split in QAC
Effective 10 a.m. Friday August 26th Queen Anne's County has declared a State of Emergency as Hurricane Irene moves towards us.
All areas west of the Route 50/301 split are under mandatory evacuation orders effective Noon Friday. We expect all residents in the affected areas to evacuate by noon Saturday at the latest.
Residents should evacuate either north on Route 301 or west on Route 50. The Bay Bridge will close when winds reach or exceed 55 miles per hour.
Be advised: Emergency and County personnel will not be dispatched during the height of the storm to avoid endangering personnel.
All businesses in the mandatory evacuation areas are ordered to close effective noon Saturday until further notice.
There are two emergency shelters; none of which are located in the evacuation area. Church Hill Elementary School and Centreville Middle School will open their doors at 10 a.m. Saturday. Pets will not be allowed in the shelters; except for service animals. County resident using the shelter may take their pets to Queen Anne's County Animal Services in Queenstown at 9 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m. Saturday.
The QAC Transportation dept. will be open at 7am Saturday to assist residents of the mandatory evacuation area with transportation to the shelters if they have none. If you receive any calls for such assistance please have them call 410-758-2357 beginning 7a.m. Saturday.

CALVERT COUTY - MANDATORY EVACUATIONS
The Calvert County Commissioners have ordered a mandatory evacuation of homes within 100 feet of the cliffs along the Chesapeake Bay. The storm brings the potential for high winds, heavy rain and large battering waves in the bay that may pose a danger for unstable cliff areas. Calvert County residents who live in low-lying areas are also urged to secure their properties and relocate until the storm passes. Calvert County will open three shelters beginning at noon today for those who need to relocate as Hurricane Irene approaches. Residents in low-lying areas prone to flooding are urged to leave their homes.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY - VOLUNTARY EVACUATIONS
Residents in flood-prone areas advised to evacuate
Mandatory evacuations can only be issued by the Governor. However, the County is urging residents of low-lying areas to seek higher ground starting Saturday morning. The attached map shows the communities that are located in the flood plain. A phone message was sent to 10,000 people at 11:30 a.m. making them aware of shelter options.The National Hurricane Center is forecasting that Hurricane Irene, presently located 420 miles Southwest of Cape Hatteras, NC, will move along the Delmarva coastline Saturday afternoon. Hurricane Irene is now a Category 2 hurricane with winds of 110 miles per hour and is expected to hold its intensity over the next 24 to 48 hours.The Governor has declared a State of Emergency for Maryland and various jurisdictions are moving persons out of vulnerable flooding areas. Anne Arundel County is encouraging residents in low-lying and coastal areas to relocate to higher ground.A shelter will be open on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Annapolis High School, 2700 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD, 21401. Domestic pets will be welcomed.

BALTIMORE CITY - CAR RELOCATION
With Hurricane Irene due to hit the Baltimore region this weekend, the Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise residents in low lying areas of the city to relocate their vehicles in anticipation of possible flooding.
Fells Point residents who live in low-lying areas particularly prone to flooding are strongly encouraged to relocate their vehicles. Citizens may park their vehicles free of charge at the following garages and parking lots starting at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2011:
Caroline Street Garage located at 805 S. Caroline Street
Fleet and Eden Street Garage located at 501 Eden Street
Edison Parking Lots located at Fallsway and High Streets

Parking at these facilities is on a first come, first served basis, and all vehicles need to be removed from these locations no later than 7:00 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2011. In addition, citizens who reside in flood prone areas in South Baltimore, Cherry Hill, Westport, etc. may move their vehicles to Lot O of the stadium lots during these times.
In the event that any vehicles have to be relocated by city forces during the storm, they will be taken to the Edison Lots at Fallsway and High Streets. Motorists may call 311 with questions concerning the location of their vehicles.
Citizens should stay informed during the storm by tuning into local media channels for current weather conditions and alerts.

BALTIMORE COUNTY - VOLUNTARY EVACUATIONS
5:00 p.m.: CountyRide Vans to Transport Residents from Flood-Prone Areas to Shelter Baltimore County Department of Aging CountyRide vans will be making continuous runs from four locations in eastern Baltimore County to the storm shelter at Eastern Technical High School tomorrow from 12 noon until 2 p.m. The vans will pick up residents at:

4:30 p.m.: Shelter Opening Noon Tomorrow at Eastern Technical High
A shelter at Eastern Technical High School, 1100 Mace Avenue, Essex, will open at noon tomorrow, but County Executive Kevin Kamenetz encouraged residents in flood-prone areas to consider the shelter a last resort and instead make plans to stay with family and friends. Kamenetz delivered an automated phone call to more than 8,500 households in Baltimore County's coastal communities, urging those in flood-prone areas to consider leaving by tomorrow morning, before the weather deteriorates. Baltimore County has more than 200 miles of waterfront and thousands of residents who live in potential flood areas. "We want to do everything that we can to help people be prepared for this storm," said Kamenetz. "As I said at today's press conference, we want people to prepare for the worst and hope for the best."The Eastern Technical High shelter is a pet-friendly shelter. It will accept non-exotic pets under 80 pounds. Pets must crated and leashed; bring food and medicine for your animals. County emergency management officials stress that this shelter should be a last resort; they encourage residents to make plans in advance for themselves and their pets.

ANNAPOLIS -
County Executive Leopold Opens Annapolis High School as a Hurricane Shelter Transportation from fire stations available on emergency basis
Annapolis, MD (March 11, 2011) - County Executive Leopold has opened Annapolis High School as an emergency shelter for residents who need to evacuate in anticipation of Hurricane Irene."We are strongly encouraging citizens who live in low-lying areas such as Deale, Shady Side and Bayside Beach to evacuate for their safety," County Executive Leopold said. "As a precaution, we are also providing transportation for emergencies from the Deale, Lothian and Shady Side fire stations to the shelter." The shelter at Annapolis High School is equipped with a backup generator and stocked with 120 cots, with an additional 140 cots on standby. It will be open for at least 24 hours as the storm passes through. The shelter also has space for citizens to bring their pets. Please bring supplies for them, such as medications and food. The National Weather Service is anticipating the height of the storm to hit our area around 2 a.m. Sunday morning. Irene is a Category I hurricane moving northward over the Outer Banks of North Carolina with winds between 40 and 50 mph with gusts of 50 to 75 mph. The storm is expected to pass Virginia Beach at 8 p.m. tonight and Atlantic City by 8 a.m. Sunday. Tidal surges of 3 to 6 feet are expected. Baltimore Gas & Electric is anticipating power outages. During Hurricane Isabel in 2003, 196,000 of 230,000 customers in Anne Arundel County were without power. The Office of Emergency Management has been broadcasting Code Red messages to thousands of residents. These calls advising people to seek higher ground are NOT a hoax. Please also be advised that Annapolis High School is the only official shelter in the County. Southern Middle School is NOT opened as a shelter.
