Mayor Apologizes For Late-Night Storm Robocalls
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is apologizing to Baltimore residents who received automatic calls dispensing advice ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Irene.
The mayor said Saturday evening that she didn't know how many calls were made between 9 p.m. Friday -- when the calls were supposed to stop -- and 7 a.m. Saturday -- when the technical glitch was discovered and stopped -- but she's sorry that the calls caused a lot of people to lose sleep.
Rawlings-Blake says the calls were meant to tell people what they needed to do to prepare for the storm. She says many people appreciate the reminders, but they're meant to help, not hurt.
