About 530,000 Customers In Mid-Atlantic Lack Power

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Utility companies say about 530,000 homes and businesses in the mid-Atlantic region are without electricity due to Hurricane Irene's high winds.

The outages early Monday were spread across northern Virginia, Delaware, the Delmarva Peninsula and central and southern Maryland.

One company, Baltimore Gas and Electric, said Monday it could take until Saturday to fully restore electricity.

BG&E says about 366,000 of its customers were without power Monday morning.

Pepco was reporting 62,000 customers without electricity in Washington and its Maryland suburbs. That includes about 15,000 in the District of Columbia.

The Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative says it has about 44,000 customers out.

Delmarva Power is reporting about 41,000 customers without power.

Dominion Power says more than 18,000 customers in northern Virginia don't have electricity.
