BLOG: Justin Verlander

Another baseball season is winding down, and yes the Baltimore Orioles have been eliminated a long time ago.  That doesn't mean there aren't some great stories. The biggest might be Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander.

Verlander won again last night to go to 23-5 on the season.  It was his 11th straight victory (ironically it was also the Tigers 11th straight win).  With last night's win Verlander became the first pitcher to win 23 games and throw a no hitter in the same season since Sandy Koufax in 1965.  The list of guys who have now accomplished this feat is Verlander, Koufax, Juan Marichal, and Bob Feller.  That's it!!

I usually don't think a pitcher should win the MVP.  They have their own award (Cy Young).  This is one of those years though where maybe a pitcher deserves it, and Justin Verlander is that pitcher.
