Neighbors Cry Foul Over Md. Woman's Chickens

LINTHICUM, Md. (AP) -- Neighbors in the Maryland community of Linthicum have gotten into a flap over one woman's chickens.

The Annapolis Capital reports Jane Narlee has kept five hens in her backyard for the last two years.

Recently, however, a neighbor has complained to the county about the birds, saying they smell and that their food has attracted rats.

The county says Narlee's lot doesn't fit requirements for keeping the birds and have given her until Oct. 27 to get rid of them. Narlee says the birds are not just a source of eggs but also family pets. She plans to appeal the decision.
