Looking at the record, you could make an argument for a bunch of teams in the AFC being the best.

The Patriots went 14-2 last year and 4-1 this year. Their offense is ridiculous, scoring 30 or more in 13 straight, 1 short of the NFL record.  But their defense has Swiss cheese size holes. They just can’t stop anybody so unless that changes, it will be an issue.  The Bills are 4-1. But they’re the Bills…enough said. The Chargers are 4-1, but Norv is their coach, enough said. The Ravens have blown out 2 good teams, the Steelers and Jets.  They laid an egg in Tennessee, true, but their defense is stout and their offense will only get better. Right now, they’re in a slight lead for tops in the AFC.

That said, the AFC is down compared to the NFC this year, so I’m not saying they’re the best in the NFL.  Obviously, Green Bay is.  The Lions look great, and the Saints are a great team again.
