I-83 Reopens After Brief Closure For Inmate Search

BALTIMORE (WJZ)— A Baltimore police spokesman says Interstate 83 is open again after being closed temporarily near 28th Street while officers helped corrections officials search for an escapee from Central Booking.

Police are searching for 29-year-old Maury Figueroa, who was being held on a controlled dangerous substance charge and driving without a license. He's also facing an immigration detainer.

Figueroa escaped from the Central Booking and Intake Center around 11:30 a.m. through a sally port while working on an institutional sanitation detail.  An officer attempted to stop Figueroa, who then scaled a fence in an employee parking lot.

At this time Figueroa has not yet been returned to custody. The  Baltimore City Police are leading the search.

Anyone with information on this offender is asked to call 911.
