Police Watch For Sex Offenders During Holidays

TOWSON, Md. (AP) — Baltimore County police say officers will be on the lookout this holiday season for sex offenders hanging around children.

Police say plainclothes officers will be posted in busy shopping areas where children congregate to watch for registered sex offenders prohibited from being near children.

If a plainclothes officer determines that someone is violating parole or probation, they’ll contact a uniformed officer who will speak with the offender. The person’s name may be passed on to the state officials for enforcement action and the offender could be returned to jail.

Police say many retailers are getting involved, too. Security officers have been given pictures of registered offenders and will contact police if they see someone who concerns them.

Lets see here.. drunk driving goes up to crazy numbers and many children are injured or killed by the drunks during the holidays…Many are robbed / injured by muggers during the holidays and children are left without christmas because of these robberys…AND how many Officers will be working extra drunk driver check points or how many officers will be detailed watching shoppers be safe ???? ZERO thats right ZERO why because they will be busy trying to pick out 1 in 20,000 possible sex offenders who may be shopping for xmas ?? MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL….

  • This Is Hype

This is just another example of political hype wasting tax payers’ hard earned money. Anybody who knows anything knows that registered sex offenders have the lowest recidivism rate, less than one percent, of any other offender. I would hope that eventually lawmakers and law enforcement officials would focus their time and resources, as well as our tax money on legitimate viable crime stopping endeavors and promote better public safety by educating themselves as to focusing on real issues at hand, i.e., drunk drivers, homeland security, unemployment, homelessness, etc.
