Family Mourns 3 Victims Of Western Md. House Fire

CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- Family members are mourning three women killed in a house fire in Cumberland.

They tell the Cumberland Times-News that 66-year-old Delores Crawford, her 37-year-old daughter Ruth Crawford and 45-year-old Kellie Appold, died in the blaze early Sunday morning on Estelle Street.

The state medical examiner's office hasn't publicly released the victims' names. The agency is investigating the cause of the fire.

Delores Crawford's son Edward lives next door. He says he was awakened by popping sounds and looked out a window to see his mother's house in flames.

The fire at the two-story home was reported shortly before 4 a.m.

Edward Crawford says the house was about 100 years old and made of wood. He doesn't know if it had smoke detectors.
