BALTIMORE (AP) — Kevin Thompson scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Morgan State over Maryland-Baltimore County 73-60 on Wednesday night, ending an eight-game losing streak dating back to last season.
The Bears (1-7), whose last win was 61-48 over Bethune Cookman in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference semifinals on March 11, shot 54.3 percent (25 of 46) against the Retrievers.
Morgan State trailed 18-17 with 6:28 left in the first half before scoring 10 straight. Ian Chiles’ layup put the Bears up
27-18 with 4:10 left until halftime. Chiles finished with 14 points, Blake Bozeman had 13 and Larry Bastfield added 11 for Morgan State.
The Bears turned it over 16 times, compared to just eight by UMBC, but held the Retrievers to 31.5 percent from the field (23 of 73).
Brian Neller had 16 points, Chase Plummer added 11 points and 12 rebounds for UMBC (1-8).
