Frederick County To Launch Emergency Alert System

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Frederick County officials say a new emergency notification system for residents is ready for launch.

The Board of County Commissioners announced Tuesday that ALERT Frederick County will begin Jan. 17. It will allow government officials to send emergency messages to residents by telephone, email and text message.

The News-Post of Frederick reports that Board President Blaine Young urged residents to register to receive the notices, which will include flash flood warnings, Amber Alerts and county government and road closures.

Residents can register at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/ALERT.
