Man Honored For No-Kill Animal Shelter Work
CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- A Cumberland man is being honored for helping turn the Allegany County Animal Shelter into a no-kill facility.
The Cumberland Times-News reports that Peter Masloch is among five national recipients of 2011 leadership awards from the Oakland, Calif.-based No Kill Advocacy Center.
The center announced the winners Dec. 18.
Masloch was a volunteer at the shelter in Cumberland last year when he helped lead a campaign against euthanasia. He became a paid worker in March and has helped other communities find alternatives to killing healthy, stray animals.
County Commissioner Bill Valentine recently said that adopting a no-kill policy was among the commissioners' most important accomplishments in the past year.
