San Jose State Hits 16 3s, Tops Coppin State 81-66

SEATTLE (AP) -- San Jose State hit a school-record 16 3-pointers to beat Coppin State 81-66 on Thursday night at the Elgin Baylor Classic.

The Spartans missed their first 11 3-pointers before making eight in each half en route to their first victory away from home.

They took a school-record 40 attempts and shot 40 percent.

Keith Shamburger scored 18 and Calvin Douglas and D.J. Brown added 14 each to lead San Jose State (5-8). Shamburger, Douglas and Brown each made four 3-pointers.

Akeem Ellis scored 24 to lead Coppin State (4-8), which dropped to 0-8 on the road. Antonio Williams added 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Douglas hit a 3-pointer with 3.2 seconds left to give the Spartans a 38-36 halftime lead in a comeback after they trailed by 15 midway through the first half.
