Pa. Fugitive Gets 5 Years On Md. Gun Charge

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- An escaped Pennsylvania inmate is going to prison in Maryland after he was found walking through Hagerstown with a loaded AK-47 on the eve of the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Woodrow Carmack, 21, was sentenced Monday in Washington County Circuit Court to five years for possessing a regulated firearm as a fugitive.

His lawyer says Carmack had planned to sell the assault rifle to finance his flight from Bucks County, Pa.

Police found him on the evening of Sept. 10 dressed in camouflage fatigues and carrying a bag containing the gun and 125 rounds of ammunition.

They say Carmack said he planned to shoot people and that Hagerstown was "a war zone."

Carmack has seven months left to serve for an aggravated assault in Pennsylvania.
