4 Hurt When New Roof Collapses At Md. Winery

RISING SUN, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say four people were injured when the new roof collapsed on a building at the Dove Valley Winery in Cecil County.

The Cecil Whig reports that Maryland State Police say that four people were taken to Christiana Hospital after the collapse in Rising Sun on Thursday. Two had injuries that were not life-threatening and the others were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Foreman Richard McDonald says the workers were checking trusses in the 69-foot by 112-foot structure when he heard a loud crack and the roof collapsed, sending the workers falling about 20 feet.

McDonald says three of the workers were able to get out on their own and the fourth was helped out.

County building inspectors and Maryland Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating.
