BLOG: Wet Weather Ahead

Freezing Rain Advisory in effect through 9 a.m. Monday.

There is not a whole lot of moisture outside, but the drizzle and mist are falling on a frozen ground. At 10 p.m., it's still only 30 degrees. So anything that does fall, and any fog that forms, will create a thin coating of ice on the ground. Temperatures will rise through the night, but it's going to take until early Monday morning to get above freezing.

The warmer air moving our way is coming with the approaching storm. Everything that does fall Sunday is really out ahead of the main storm with the bulk of the moisture arriving Monday - fortunately when temperatures get above freezing. Monday's rain will also help to melt the leftover ice that is already on the ground from this weekend. There may even be a thunderstorm Monday afternoon before this storm gets out of here Monday night.

Behind this storm, a round of Pacific air will flood the Mid-Atlantic. Highs will be above average, in the upper 40s Tuesday and Wednesday. Another storm will move our way Thursday into Friday. It may create some rain showers around here, but it looks like it will be rain because temperatures will continue to run above average - in the upper 40s to near 50. There is another storm that could move our way heading into the weekend that may tap into colder air. If it does, expect some wintry weather to mix with the rain.
