Md. Man Gets 30 Years For Sex Abuse Of 1-Year-Old

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — A Frederick man is starting a 30-year prison term for sexually abusing a 1-year-old boy so badly the child needed surgical repair.

The Frederick News-Post reports Ryan Sheppard, 19, was sentenced Thursday in Frederick County Circuit Court.

Judge Julie Solt also put Sheppard on Tier III of the Maryland Sex Offender Registry. That’s the level reserved for the most serious offenders.

She says he will be on the registry for life, with treatment and regular polygraphs. He is barred from possessing pornography and from having contact with people under 18.

Solt recommended that Sheppard be sent to the Patuxent Institution, a maximum-security prison in Jessup for inmates who are considered likely to respond favorably to treatment for mental or emotional problems.
