ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Gerardo Suero scored a career-high 32 points, 21 in the first half, as Albany (N.Y.) downed
Maryland-Baltimore County 87-76 Wednesday night in America East Conference action.
The Great Danes (15-9, 7-3), who won their third straight, led 44-34 at halftime. Suero sizzled in the first half, the guard
hitting 6 of 9 field goal attempts — including his only 3-point try — and going 8 for 8 at the foul line. Midway through the second half, Albany increased its lead to 68-44 but UMBC (3-18, 2-7) made it respectable before succumbing.
Suero finished 10 for 15 from the field, made both of his 3-point attempts and all 10 free throws. Logan Aronholt was the
only other Great Dane in double figures with 21 points.
Ryan Cook led UMBC with 28 points. Chandler Thomas and Brian Neller added 19 and 17, respectively. Seven other Retrievers combined for only 10 points.
