Firefighters Unhurt By Ban On Highway Signs
LITTLE ORLEANS, Md. (AP) -- The State Highway Administration says a volunteer fire company in western Maryland need not fear a crackdown on commercial signs along state highways.
The agency said Tuesday that the ban doesn't apply to chicken barbecues advertised by the Orleans Volunteer Fire Company on temporary signs the group periodically places along Interstate 68 near Little Orleans.
Fire company Chief John Clingerman told the Cumberland Times-News Monday that the fundraisers were threatened by a new law establishing a $25 fine for illegal commercial signs along state highways. The State Highway Administration started enforcing the law last month.
