4 Prince George's Co. Police Officers Honored For Fire Rescue

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) -- Four Prince George's County police officers have been honored for helping evacuate a burning apartment building in College Park.

The officers were presented at a ceremony Friday with award certificates and letters of commendation from County Fire Chief Marc Bashoor.

One of the four officers was unable to attend the ceremony. Police Chief Mark Magaw was also there.

Authorities say the four officers, without any protective equipment, entered an apartment building in College Park last Saturday after noticing heavy smoke coming from the sixth floor. They checked the apartment where the fire had originated and then helped the remaining occupants to safety.

The building houses seniors and people with limited mobility.
