Man Shot By Md. Police Officer During Altercation

HURLOCK, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland man has been shot by a police officer after allegedly accelerating the truck toward the officer.

Maryland State Police say Leon J. Spry, 35, was shot in the torso and was under police guard Saturday while being treated for a non-life threatening injury.

Police say two Hurlock officers fired at Spry after he crashed his truck into a patrol car and veered it toward one of them.

The officers were investigating a report of possible shots fired before midnight Friday when they found Spry slumped over inside an apartment building. Authorities say Spry became argumentative, ran inside his truck and assaulted them while trying to drive away.

Police say Spry crashed his truck into a pole after fleeing.

The two officers have been placed on routine administrative leave.
