Loyola Edges Manhattan 62-60

RIVERDALE, N.Y. (AP) -- Erik Etherly dropped in a layup with just over a minute left, and Loyola-Maryland held Manhattan scoreless for the final 60 seconds to clinch a 62-60 win on Sunday in a game to decide second place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Etherly's go-ahead basket with 1:01 to play gave Loyola (21-8, 13-5) its final margin, and the Greyhounds then forced a missed 3-point attempt and a failed midrange jumper by the Jaspers to clinch the comeback win.

The final basket was only the second time Loyola had led since 11:39 to play before halftime.

With the victory in the regular-season finale for both teams, Loyola secured second place in the MAAC.

Justin Drummond led the Greyhounds with a team-high 13 points and Etherly notched a game-high 10 rebounds.

George Beamon, who missed his last three shots, led Manhattan (20-11, 12-6) with a game-high 24 points.
