UMUC President Remains On Unexplained Leave
ADELPHI, Md. (AP) -- The head of Maryland's university system still isn't saying why the president of the University of Maryland University College has been placed on leave.
Chancellor William Kirwan wrote in a letter to the UMUC community Tuesday that it "may be a few weeks" before he can provide further information about university President Susan Aldridge. She was placed on indefinite leave a week ago.
Kirwan says he understands the news has "raised many questions" but adds that "regrettably, the situation remains the same." He gives no further details about Aldridge's leave.
UMUC is the largest public university in the United States, with more than 90,000 students. More than half are military service members, veterans and their families. Many live overseas and take classes online, although the university also offers face-to-face instruction.
