5 Hurt In Ski Hill Accident In McHenry

McHENRY, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say three adults and two children are recovering from injuries they suffered in an accident at the Wisp ski resort in western Maryland.

Resort spokeswoman Lori Epp says they were participants in the annual Cardboard Box Derby on Saturday. The event is sponsored by the Deep Creek Lake Lions Club.

Epp says 14 people were riding in a cardboard vessel that veered out of the snow-tubing lanes and crashed into metal pipes supporting a snow-making machine.

The five unidentified victims were taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. Epps had no information Monday about the extent of their injuries.

Representatives from the Lions Club didn't immediately respond to queries from The Associated Press.

The event was a fundraiser for the club's blind skier program.
