Harford Council Approves Teacher Bonus Money

BEL AIR, Md. (AP) -- The Harford County Council has approved bonus money for teachers that had been set aside for them by County Executive David Craig.

The Baltimore Sun reports that the council approved a $2.1 million appropriation for the bonus money on Tuesday. Teachers were supposed to get the $1,250 bonus along with all other county employees at the end of 2011. Craig, however, vetoed the bill after the Harford County Education Association teachers' union tried to get more control of the funding distribution.

Councilman Dick Slutzky says he is glad to see the bill moving forward, but said he would have liked to have passed it around Christmas so teachers could get it along with other employees.
