WASHINGTON (AP) — Washington has experienced its warmest winter on record.

The National Weather Service says the average temperature for the period from December’s winter solstice to the spring equinox on Tuesday was 45.6 degrees. The weather service says that’s about two degrees higher than the previous record set in 1989-90.

This Washington Post reports that past winter was also marked by a lack of very cold days. The temperature measured at Reagan National Airport fell to 32 degrees or below on 24 of the season’s 89 days. That’s the fewest on record for Washington.
