Bill Requiring Helmets For Moped Riders In Senate

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — The Maryland Senate is scheduled to take a final vote on a bill that would require moped and motor scooter riders to wear helmets.

Senators are expected to consider the bill Thursday.

Sponsored by Baltimore County Democrat Sen. Kathy Klausmeier, the legislation would also require scooter and moped drivers to have protective eyewear if they do not have a windscreen.

A version of the bill was introduced last year, but it was referred to the House of Delegates Environmental Matters Committee to be studied in the interim between legislative sessions.

Just another way to suck more money from the people of Maryland.

This is getting ridiculous. I am tried of the out of control government thinking that it is the nanny of everyone and that it needs to pass a million non-sense unwanted laws. It is not the role of the government to protect someone from themselves. If I want to ride a moped or even a bike without a helmet then it is MY responsibility if I get hurt or not, not the governments. It would be my stupidity to risk death but I am the one solely responsible for the outcome. It would fall under SELF-government and my responsibility and not CIVIL-government and their responsibility. I am so tired of the endless millions of laws being passed that should have nothing to do with Civil-government. With the issue of insurance I agree with the comment from wiseguy, it is just another way to suck more money from the people.

With these endless laws, we are starting to live in a very tyrannical society..

We should have a choice to or not. But if you do get hurt because you didnt wear a helmet, then you better have medical coverage. If you dont I dont think the taxpayers should have to pay for the emergency room visit.

So I think Maryland passing it is trying to help everyone be safer and prevent these huge medical bills being passed on because of non-insured people getting help.

Personally if you dont have medical coverage then I would not help the person, sorry to say that but this is why the system is some what broken.

Oh boy – here is where Obama-nomics kicks in. It used to be if you got hurt, only you or your insurance paid for it. Now – since the govt is paying even part of your health care, your body “belongs” to the gov’t. “They” get to dictate small things at first – helmets, no indoors smoking, etc. After that, they get to dictate how you live, what you eat, where you go, ad infinium. Pretty soon, you’re a slave to the Democrat Socialist Party. Anyone who disagrees with the gov’t is abducted and taken away for “mental health care”. Few return.

Enjoy your freedom while you still have it. And remember – cigarettes, lotto tickets, alcoholic beverages, internal combustion engines, and salt are all bad for you – hence, theyre illegal. Or they will be soon.
