Oriole Park At Camden Yards Gets A Renovation

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- It's one of the most beautiful ballparks in the country. This year, Oriole Park at Camden Yards turns 20 years old.

Jessica Kartalija explains big changes are underway to make the stadium even more fan-friendly.

Major changes are underway just in time for Opening Day at Camden Yards. The countdown is on to the start of a new baseball season and Camden Yards is getting a facelift.

"Less than two weeks to go until Opening Day, it's the 20th anniversary of Oriole Park at Camden Yards and we want to make sure the ballpark looks beautiful and a lot of the amenities we want to add this season are complete," Greg Bader said.

Seven and eight foot tall bronze sculptures of six of the Orioles' greatest players stand in the bullpen picnic grove, a new roof deck on top of the batters' eye wall in centerfield will show off the view of downtown Baltimore and Eutaw Street, and the flag court has been modified to improve the view for fans.

"We believe the areas we are adding are going to create a social environment where fans can see friends, to come visit. It's not as if you are trapped in your seat watching the game," Bader said.

Fans like Jake Culp are ready for the first pitch.

"It's a mess right now but it's going to look much better come Opening Day," Culp said.

Opening Day is Good Friday, April 6.

Of course, you can catch all the action on Opening Day right here on WJZ.
