Fire Engulfs Homes At Joint Base Andrews In Md.

JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. (AP) -- Authorities say a fire tore through three townhouses at Joint Base Andrews, formerly known as Andrews Air Force Base, in Maryland.

Base spokesman Eric Sharman says the fire broke out at a residential section on Andrews on Thursday afternoon. About 17 people were displaced from the homes and have been relocated. Col. Ken Rizer, commander of the base, says members of the Navy, Marines and Air Force, and their families, were affected.

Firefighters on the base battled the blaze, with help from the Prince George's County Fire Department.

Officials believe the fire started in the back of one of the townhouses. The cause of fire is under investigation.
