Quick Hits: O’s Pick Arrieta, Trouble In Kentucky And Mark Melancon
Kentucky’s 8th National Championship certainly wasn’t without some bad news. Small fires burned, dozens were arrested and even one man was wounded by gunfire. The shooting happened shortly after 2 a.m. and the man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries that weren’t life threatening.
The Orioles will face the state college of Florida Manatees Tuesday. The Birds will supply both the pitchers as Suyoshi Wada and Jason Hammel will both pitch. It was made official Monday that Jake Arrieta will take the ball on Friday on Opening Day.
Red Sox closer Andrew Bailey may not start the season. Bailey will have surgery on the injured thumb of his pitching hand and it’s not clear how long he will be out, but it’s reported it could be three months. Mark Melancon could serve as the team’s closer if Bailey isn’t ready.
The Washington Capitals will be spectators as they hope that both the Sabres and Panthers lose Tuesday. Buffalo will host the Maple Leafs, and the Panthers host the Winnipeg Jets. Two other matchups to watch are the Flyers hosting the Rangers, and the Penguins in Boston to face the Bruins.
