2 Women Die After Head-On Collision In Crofton

CROFTON, Md. (WJZ)-- A head-on crash kills two people during Monday night's rush hour in Anne Arundel County.

The cars collided on Davidsonville Road near Rossback Road in Crofton--killing both drivers, 26-year-old  Stephanie Noell Banchero of Gambrills  and 70-year-old  Mary Elizabeth Corkill of Davidsonville.

Police say driver error appears to be a contributing factor.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2002 Honda Accord was traveling north on Davidsonville Road when it drifted off the right side of the roadway just off the paved surface. The operator over corrected, which caused the vehicle to travel back onto the roadway across the double yellow lane lines into oncoming southbound traffic. The operator of the Accord collided just offset of head-on with a 2000 Cadillac SLS as she attempted to gain control and move back into the northbound lane.

Police say there is no evidence that drugs or alcohol were factors.

The investigation is ongoing.
