Man Rescued After Spending Night On Capsized Boat

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Officials say an 18-year-old Annapolis man is lucky he was found alive after spending the night clinging to the hull of a capsized sailboat in the Chesapeake Bay.

The Capital newspaper of Annapolis reports that Thomas Lundvall was rescued Easter morning from the 16-foot Prindle daysailer.

Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police spokesman Sgt. Art Windemuth told the newspaper that Lundvall was spotted by someone aboard a passing freighter near the mouth of the Severn River.

Natural Resources Police, the Coast Guard, Maryland State Police and the county Fire Department launched a rescue effort using fire boats and aircraft.

Natural Resources Police estimate Lundvall was in the water for nine hours Sunday morning.

Lundvall was conscious but had difficulty speaking. Windemuth said his body temperature was around 88 degrees.
