I think it’s comical right now to listen to Ed Reed say the Ravens have disrespected him. How? By paying him better than any safety in the game? By letting him dictate when he’s ready to play and when he’s not? Reed is a great player. Better than that, he’s magical. But Ed needs to get some sound, objective advice.
He’s 34. He’s had major injuries. Those kinds of players, you don’t give them extensions with lots of up front money. That’s bad business. Good business is to let him play out the final year of his deal, or give him an extension with no more money than you’ve already committed this year, which is $7 million. As many times as he has teased about possibly retiring, you can’t give that player a lot of up front money. If he has anyone to blame, it’s himself for throwing out the possibility of his pending retirement.
