Bush Hager, Husband Get Tax Credit On Rental Home

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Former first daughter Jenna Bush Hager and her husband Henry put their South Baltimore home on the market in 2010 and though they are now renting out the 1880s townhouse, the couple still gets a tax break meant for owner-occupants.

The Baltimore Sun reports that a man who answered the door at the three-bedroom, 2 1/2-bath corner townhouse last week said he had been renting from the couple since August.

The state Department of Assessments and Taxation says it took away the homestead tax credit when it was reported in 2010 that the couple was trying to sell the home, but it was reinstated when Hager informed officials that it was still their residence. They got a $296 tax credit on their $9,000 bill for the current tax year.
