Md. Man Charged In Assault On 2 Salisbury Officers

SALISBURY, Md. (AP) -- Police say a man who was shot after driving toward two Salisbury police officers has been charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder.

Maryland State Police say Tremont Wright, of Princess Anne, was also charged with two counts each of
first-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

Authorities say the officers tried to stop a Ford Expedition after it crossed the centerline on Route 13 and almost struck their cruiser early Sunday. But police say the driver, Wright, sped south and then struck another officer's cruiser.

The Ford then swerved off the road and struck an embankment.

Police say the two original officers got out of their cruiser and ordered Wright, 21, to surrender, but Wright reversed toward them.

Police say the officers fired at Wright, striking him in the leg.
