Metro Holding Meetings On Bus Stop Consolidation

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro is hosting a series of meetings to talk about discontinuing certain bus stops.

Metro held the first of three planned meetings Tuesday evening at Matthews Memorial Baptist Church in southeast Washington. The next meeting is Thursday evening at Mount Airy Baptist Church in northwest Washington.

Metro says the meetings are being held to explain the criteria that will be applied in identifying bus stops to discontinue, including low numbers of riders getting on at that stop and proximity to other stops. Metro says the consolidation of stops will improve efficiency and reduce costs. Passengers will have an opportunity to offer their opinions and recommendations.

A final meeting is planned for May 17 at Trinity Episcopal Church in northwest Washington. A second round of meetings will be held this summer.
