BALTIMORE (WJZ)— A brutal attack inside a Baltimore home leads to an intense standoff with police.

Investigators say an unidentified man pistol-whipped his girlfriend inside a home in the 5700-block of Fenwick Avenue at around 2:45 p.m. Sunday.

Police say a couple got into an argument, which soon turned physical. A man hit his girlfriend in the head with a handgun. Neighbors reportedly heard gunfire at around 12:30 p.m., but it is not clear if the victim was also shot.

She was taken to Shock Trauma.

The man refused to surrender to police, and later took his own life.
