PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (WJZ)– The storm system swept through the counties to our south in the Washington, D.C. area Friday night, and it led to some dramatic rescues on flooded roads.

Denise Koch has more.

The powerful line of storms rolled through Montgomery County, bringing heavy rain and flooding. One truck was stuck in the high, muddy water on Clarksburg Road near Damascus.

In Prince George’s County, another driver underestimated the danger.

“It went from three feet to five and a half feet, just like that,” he said.

His vehicle suddenly became submerged in the water, forcing him to swim to safety. Another driver lost control, abandoning the flipped SUV in the floods.

On top of the soaking rains, an alarming sight for drivers as they spotted funnel clouds moving through Greenbelt and College Park.

It was a similar scene in Sterling, Va. just outside Washington, D.C.
