Prince George's Councilwoman Gets Probation In Traffic Case

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- A Prince George's County councilwoman has been given probation before judgment on a reckless driving charge.

A judge also ordered Karen Toles to pay a $402 fine and $33 in court costs after a hearing Wednesday.

Toles was pulled over while driving her county-issued vehicle on the Capital Beltway in February. She was ticketed for an unsafe lane change. The police officer could not establish her speed because the officer's cruiser was not equipped with radar. But police later cited her for reckless driving after reviewing the evidence.

Probation before judgment means Toles will get no additional points on her driver's license, and the infraction will be wiped from her record if she commits no traffic offenses over the next year.

Toles has apologized for the incident.
