Jerry Coleman: Reimold & Markakis Headed In Different Directions

Orioles veteran right fielder Nick Markakis was hoping to a return to the lineup and be back on the field sometime during this home stand. That doesn't appear likely, manager Buck Showalter said that they have to "get the soreness out of the tissue before he comes back". Showalter claims that Markakis- on the disabled list for the 1st time in his career - is ahead of the normal schedule but he did not give an official date or timetable as to when Markakis will be back.

Nevertheless, Markakis is a grind-it out player who does whatever it takes to be in the lineup every day. He started the team's first 50 games for the O's before the injury. Even with his absence the team is still very much competing in the AL east and they have demonstrated depth while battling diversity.

Injuries to Nolan Reimold (below) , Markakis along with Brian Roberts who missed nearly two seasons have not slowed the ballclub down. Although, Robert's made his comeback last homestead against Pittsburgh and went 3-4 with one run batted in. No matter who is in or out of the lineup each day they find a way to pull through and get it done. What tends to separate the contenders from the pretenders is how they play through the injuries, and now the manager is preparing for his opening day left fielder to undergo major surgery
