BGE Working To Restore Power

BALTIMORE (AP) -- BGE is working to restore power to about 418,000 customers in central Maryland after the violent thunderstorm that blew through the area, but the utility says "a large number" of customers should expect to be without power for several days -- and some people will be without power until late next week.

The utility has brought in crews from Florida, Mississippi, Pennsylvania and Tennessee to help.

In addition to the outages, BGE says it is dealing with the prospect of further storms throughout the weekend and the impact of high temperatures, which creates additional demand.

High winds Friday night brought down trees and limbs onto power lines and electrical equipment.

BGE has more than 1.2 million electric customers in central Maryland.
