Federal Employees Can Take Unscheduled Leave Tuesday

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal employees in the Washington area will once again have the option of taking the day off.

The Office of Personnel Management has announced that employees can take unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework on Tuesday.

That's the same policy that was in place Monday. Hundreds of thousands of Washington-area residents remain without power following severe thunderstorms on Friday night.

The policy applies to non-emergency employees. Those eligible must notify their supervisors of their plans to take leave.

Federal offices will be closed Wednesday for Independence Day.
