Prince George's Schools Chief To Leave In September
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Schools Superintendent William R. Hite Jr. is giving up $125,000 in severance pay in exchange for an early release of his contract.
The county school board says Hite is leaving the school system on Sept. 30, 60 days earlier than his contract requires. Hite has accepted a job to lead the Philadelphia School District.
The board says it will appoint an interim superintendent next month, and expects to pick a permanent replacement by next spring.
Schools reopen in Prince George's County on Aug. 20.
