Ex-Md. Cop Sentenced For Role In Extortion Plot
GREENBELT, Md. (AP) -- A former Prince George's County police officer has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for his role in an extortion scheme involving the trafficking of contraband cigarettes and alcohol.
Richard Delabrer was sentenced in federal court in Greenbelt on Monday to three years and 10 months behind bars.
He was charged as part of a wide-ranging federal investigation into county corruption.
Delabrer admitted protecting shipments of untaxed alcohol across state lines, from Virginia to Maryland, and to buying and reselling contraband cigarettes.
Delabrer, 47, was also placed on two years supervised release and ordered to forfeit a home that prosecutors say was purchased with proceeds from the crimes.
