OWINGS MILLS, Md. (WJZ)—Hopefully, you are ready for some Ravens football. Tuesday marked opening day of training camp.

Sports director Mark Viviano has your first look at this year’s team.

Overall, it wasn’t a bad first day for the Ravens quarterbacks and rookies. There was some drizzle, so not the usual dry, July depressing heat.

But in short time, the heat will be turned up for the team both literally and figuratively as they head into another season in which they will be considered to be championship contenders.

Excitement starts in the summertime for the Ravens and their fans. For the players, it’s time to get back to work. Training camp means long, hot hours in preparation for another season.

What they hope is that they put together a team that’s capable of what they accomplished over the last four seasons: playoff games and twice making it to the conference title game.

Quarterback Joe Flacco has been in charge of the offense in each of the past four seasons and has said the goal remains to go even further to the Super Bowl.

It’s a February goal that begins in the heat of July.

And while the players take the first steps toward a long season, we asked fans with our WJZ Fan Cam what they were most excited about as training camp begins.

“I’m ready to bleed purple all season. This year, I’m seeing Super Bowl. No losing to Tom Brady. None of that,” one fan said.

“It’s exciting. I love the Ravens,” said another.

“Hopefully with Ray Rice getting signed, and hopefully I think Joe Flacco is going to turn it on this year, so I’m looking forward to a good season this year,” said a man.

“I’m just excited for this season and we almost did it last year, so this year we’re just a little bit closer,” said another man.

“Purple’s the way to go. Everybody deserves second chances. We’re going to do great and I’m really excited,” said a woman.

There are about 90 players on the Ravens training camp roster, and about half that many were on the field Tuesday. The veterans all have to report to camp Wednesday. The first full squad workout is coming up on Thursday.
