Hood College Alumna Leaves $644K For Scholarship

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — A 1933 graduate of Maryland’s Hood College and her husband have left more than $640,000 to the school for the establishment of a scholarship fund.

Susan Erb, the school’s associated director of financial aid, tells The Frederick News-Post that the scholarship created by Eleanor and Kenneth Stanley will be awarded based on merit and need. It will first be offered in the 2013-14 school year.

The college says Eleanor Stanley studied botany and worked as a bacteriologist at Bellevue Hospital in New York. She was living in Winter Park, Fla., when she died in 2003.

Nancy Gillece, vice president for institutional advancement, says Stanley’s trust was set up to benefit her sister, who died in April. Gillece says Hood was told in May that it would receive the assets.
