WEATHER BLOG: New Front Ahead

The front that moved into Maryland Sunday slowed down significantly and is still trying to exit the state across the south Monday. That's why there have been clouds and showers in southern Maryland and the lower Eastern Shore most of the day. Meanwhile, drier air is moving in behind the front. It's also been a slow process, but sunshine has broken through the clouds across the north. This front will keep moving south, where it will stall out over Virginia Tuesday. There is the chance for a pop up thunderstorm across the south later Tuesday with the front so close by, otherwise, we expect dry conditions to dominate the day - at least for one day.

A new front will move our way starting Wednesday. It will have its own moisture, while also drawing the stalled front's moisture back up into Maryland with it. There could be a late-day thunderstorm Wednesday, then a better chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms on Thursday. The front won't move through until Friday or early Saturday, so there will be a continued chance for showers and thunderstorms until it clears us.

Temperatures will be close to 90 degrees Tuesday through Thursday. They will drop back to the 80s with more clouds, showers and thunderstorms for the end of the week.

In the tropics...
Ernesto is still a strong tropical storm with winds of 65 mph. It is moving off to the west-northwest at 12 mph. The forecast track takes Ernesto just north of the Honduras coastline before making landfall somewhere in Belize or along the Yucatan Peninsula as a minimal hurricane. Winds just need to get to 74 mph to become a hurricane. Even if it's a minimal strength hurricane, strengthening storms at landfall are never good news.

The final update has been issued on Florence. It is still way out there in the Atlantic and dropped below tropical depression level. If anything changes, we will update you.
