Bob Haynie: It's Manny's Time For The Orioles

After Wednesday night's win over the Seattle Mariners, the Baltimore Orioles announced that they will purchase the contract of infielder Manny Machado from Double-A Bowie.

Machado is expected to be in the lineup Thursday night as the Orioles start a four-game series against the Kansas City Royals.

A highly regarded prospect at shortstop, Machado will play third base for the Birds.

Just a few weeks back, there were more than a few fans who wanted to trade Machado for the first famous name they read about on the trade rumor mill.

Of course, I had to remind those people how short-sighted and stupid it would be to move a 20-year-old future star.

Now, here he is in the middle of a pennant race.

As for Machado playing third base, let's not forget that J.J. Hardy is one of the best defensive shortstops in baseball. He's not moving.

Machado has been taking grounders at third for weeks making you think this a move the Orioles have had in mind.

If he can catch the ball and throw it accurately, he will be an upgrade at third over Wilson Betemit.

The Orioles are hot and their prospects are moving upwards.

Man it's good to be talking baseball in August.
